About

Let me introduce my Mama

Her name is Constance, but many know her as Connie. She is wife to my father (married 54 years), mother to four adult children (I am the eldest), grandmother to fourteen, great-grandmother to three, and a child of God!

About four years ago, our Mom and Dad met with my siblings and me to tell us that she had just been diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. My Mom has never been one to cry easily, but she fought back tears that evening as she told us what she knew about the disease and what would probably happen to her as it progressed.

There are no tests or methods for confirming the diagnosis of LBD other than an autopsy, but my Mom’s symptoms match those of LBD.

Ever since I can remember, my Mom has said that when she dies she wants to donate her body to science; so I wasn’t surprised when she had no problem with me recording some of the most difficult days she has experienced with this illness thus far. Having never known anyone with Lewy Body Dementia, we aren’t sure exactly what the future looks like; but we do know that she has an army of prayer warriors lifting her up, a family and precious friends who love her dearly, and a Savior who is with her every step of the way.

This blog was born out of the desire to keep all those who have known my Mom, those who love my Mom, and those who have been keeping her in their prayers, updated on her progress.

It’s beginning to sink in just how ugly this disease is and how much it robs and takes and steals. Even deeper than this realization is the knowledge that God makes beautiful things out of dust, out of nothing, out of tragedy. He trades beauty for ashes, and He restores our soul.

My hope is that you find comfort, peace, joy, laughter, and maybe even some hope on this journey…with my Mother, Constance…and The Life She Knows. ❤
